IXL lauds itself as the ‘number one math practice site’. With boasting like that, Dozen.com just had to find out if there was any substance to their claim.

The Second Grade Skills Practiced on the Site

The site’s e-learning remit is from Pre K to Grade 5. It provides unlimited questions on hundreds of math topics which are categorized by grade and curriculum skill. The breadth of content is immense.

The educational content of the site is great for practice but the site includes no tutorials whatsoever. It markets itself as a practice tool and assumes tuition is obtained elsewhere, positioning itself as a supplementary study tool for reinforcement of learning aims.

The educational value of the site is excellent for what it delivers but many will miss the tutorial elements that other sites deliver alongside the general kids education.

In addition the site only has limited free access and there is a subscription of $79 per year per child.

Why is this site different to other E-learning sites? This grades the originality of the site and how it encourages children's creativity..

One cool feature is the progress log on the site. Kids can see their color-coded developmental progress and parents or teachers can also access more detailed reports about their kids learning journeys.

The exercises we viewed are all very functional in nature and many other sites delivered similar learning aims in a more creative way.

How good are the site graphics? This grades the quality of the CGI graphics and animation of the games feature on the site..

The graphics on this kids e-learning site are of a good quality and it has been generally well designed. It is far from state of the art though.

I have a subscription for IXL math for my son who is in Kindergarten. I am baffled by this poor review and completely disagree with it. I would rate with a 10/10. My son has been practicing almost daily for two months and loves it. For every skill he is given problems until he has mastered the skill. The reports are phenomenal. His math has improved exponentially. Two months ago, he didn\'t like doing math and didn\'t think he was good at math. Now he enjoys it.
