The Range of Math Games at Sheppardsoftware.com

We liked the way that this fun educational website offered very simple activities, such as coloring but presented it within a theme and then tagged on learning activities. For example, they had page of amphibian pictures for kids to color online which was accompanied by the option to find out more about amphibians, including differentiating between mammals, birds, fish and reptiles. There was then a classification game to reinforce the learning aims. It was a nice, slow, staged approach to learning and all information was presented with lovely illustrations and large text.
There were sections on geography, chemistry, English and Math. The Math is a particularly strong point of the site and has a broad range of topics all at different levels with interesting games to teach and re-enforce learning aims.Our one concern is that on the learning tool we used, although the tutorial was clear, one of the exercises used a complicated sum that was above and beyond the scope of the

tutorial. This is potentially a confidence destroyer and we would have been happier for all exercises to directly mirror the tutorial. Overall, a varied and excellent student resource from pre-kindergarten through elementary school.

Why is this site different to other E-learning sites? This grades the originality of the site and how it encourages children's creativity..

The games are truly wonderful – they use novel ways to explain complex topics and to engage kids in learning new skills, as well as giving them plenty of fun practice activities. There is a pacman-style math game which is great fun.
The sheer creativity of the design of Sheppard Software’s educational games gives it the winning edge.

How good are the site graphics? This grades the quality of the CGI graphics and animation of the games feature on the site..

Sometimes these are basic when compared to other ‘all singing all dancing’ sites. But the mix of audio and visual is an excellent combination for learning and many games include levels to support their progression and ensure they are challenged within the game.

OK, how fun is this site? Are there games on offer? Does it engage children's imagination? Run stupid competitions? We gave extra points for fun and activities..

Great activities that makes e-learning fun. It has to be said that the learning is paramount and the fun is secondary but nonetheless it is still there. This is a serious educational site which puts the emphasis in the right place – all activities are meaningful and fun-driven but focus on learning not laughs.

The site carries Google Ads which generally seem fine, however there was a lottery advert during our visit, which some parents may disapprove of. Otherwise the site was self contained and safe.
