Sniper Spy promotes itself as ‘cutting edge’. There are a range of sophisticated rival products available in a buoyant market and Dozen.com sneaked a peak at their kids safety software.

How sniperspy.com Works

The system monitors but does not filter or block; so for kids, it may not be the bees knees, as most parents will want to take action, not just passively spy on their children (however tempting that might be).
On the other hand… this is a James Bond-like monitoring tool. It is subtle, sneaky and, in many ways, sensational. Check out the cool features:
•   It does all the standard stuff like monitoring and recording keystrokes and providing screenshots, giving you transcripts of chats, a log of programs used and websites visited. It also records the time spent on the PC.
But the really clever stuff is:
•   This system allows you to remotely watch your kids PC action live, as if viewing the TV, giving you real-time monitoring.
•   Remote installation (by invisible attachment on an email – clever stuff eh?!) as well as remote monitoring and control.

The focus of this internet control software (and main customer usage, looking at web feedback) is as a monitoring tool. There was evidence of many customers using it to discover spousal affairs etc. but it is probably a little over the top for most parental monitoring. Also, without the filter and block features it is just not up to the job.

Lots of customer testimonials on the site commenting on the effectiveness of the product and the responsive customer services. However, this just confirms the product’s effectiveness as a monitoring tool and there will be many who did not buy this because they wanted to do more than monitor.

Security by Thawte, McAfee and Verisign. Credit card, PayPal, wire, phone, fax, check, bank transfer – a great choice of methods.

How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..

Navigation is via a top and sidebar menu. Categories are clear but are not specific enough.

There is a LOT of information on this site and the navigation doesn’t really go far enough to break it down into small, easy to read chunks. It is actually quite hard to locate specific information on this site and that is a big navigational failure.

How good are the descriptions of the products on this site? Does it use easy to follow language or complex computer jargon? We evaluated the descriptions displayed..

This parental control software website falls over itself to give you as much information as possible. The only problem is that it is presented in paragraph after paragraph of tiny text.

One nice feature is that there are screen shots of the system’s main elements, which brings the product to life.

Generally, there is the danger of information overload here and most pages need to be scrolled down to read, even though the text is small. This suggests to us that they are just putting too much on the pages and need to have a re-think. Remember guys, ‘less is more’.

There is a email support which promises a response within 24 hours. No live chat or phone contact was provided.

Unique selling point? Why is it different to other software sites? Are there any unusual products and packages available? Innovations?.

Live remote viewing of PC action is a USP other products did not match up to the required level, not good enough kids online surfing.

They also offer remote installation and their keystroke monitoring works in all languages.

However, these are all monitoring features and with a complete lack of control features Sniper Sply cannot be said to offer anything exceptional in the child safety arena.
