Softness

The image at the home page of Softforyou.com is really soft.

This online control software:

•   Sets up computer time restrictions
•   Blocks email, chat and P2P containing inappropriate words or phrases and also blocks suspect images.
•   Restricts and controls email and chat usage.
•   It’s also flexible enough to cope with different restrictions for different family members.

Although the monitoring is strong, the control is weak; no recording of emails or chat and no instant alerts for rule breakers.

$35 – one-off cost per computer. Subsequent copies with slight discount. Yes, OK, it’s cheap, but, come on; it only does half the job!

How easy is it to navigate around the site? We tried and tested it out and graded..

The site includes a range of different products and you need to scroll down to the I Protect You software and click on it.

Once you are through to the right page there is a list of product features but you can’t click on these for further details. Lower down the page we discovered two pdf file attachments, one of which gave a more detailed overview of iProtectYou and the other which looked at initial usage of the product. Yet further down was a linked file called ‘How it Works.

This site contains unclickable product features, pdf and linked file attachments, additional information that appeared without warning and without mention on any menu…. the navigation on this site is low tech, lacks logic and totally lets the site down.

How good are the descriptions of the products on this site? Does it use easy to follow language or complex computer jargon? We evaluated the descriptions displayed..

Once on the right page you see a list of kids safety product features which lacks detail and uses phrases like ‘content analysis’ and ‘P2P’ without explanation.

The information provided is quite brief. There are no real details about the user interface or the help facilities relating to the product.

To be honest, it took a while to dig down to the details and once we got there we were completely underwhelmed.
