Many parents associate kids' computer usage with social networking and gaming.   They see it as a negative pastime that detracts from more worthwhile activities and educational pursuits.
Although many kids do indeed use their computer time to play internet games such as Shockwave, watch kids TV and to social network, parents should also balance this out with the educational benefits of the internet.
Kids Online Education Survey
A recent survey of more than 150 European higher education lecturers, across a range of subjects, found that 85% thought online learning improves both teaching creativity and student learning success. While this survey was for higher education, it is likely a similar survey amongst elementary or high school teachers would come out with similar results.
The teaching profession constantly endorses what is known as 'blended learning' - that is, a mix or online and classroom based teaching.
